Changin polygon material on particle collision?

I confess right off, I don’t know much about ICE yet, so this might be either trivial or completely impossible

How would you go about changing a material on polygons (as opposed to entire object) based on if they are hit by particles? Is there a way for detecting collisions per polygon?

What I’m trying to achieve is a kind of washing/painting effect with a particle “jet”

You wouldn’t do it by changing the material on polygons, as that would mean finding what material is on each polygon and then change it, which is tricky and performs really badly.

Have your collisions affect a weightmap or a colorsAtVertices map, and use that in your rendertree to shade accordingly, and you’ll have per-point granularity (which on dense enough geometry might be enough) and a lot less work to do

Thanks a lot, I will try it!
