change the dark side color

is it possible to change the dark side color ?
not the shadow color ~
I want to do this not by comp or add another light ~
is it possible ?

Well, add an ambient light is the easiest. But if you insist, then Photoshop.

What software?

In max you can use a falloff or gradient map for that (both need to be set to lighting mode for this effect).
