Change Skin Influence Obj w/out normalize?

I’m attempting to use an influence object to prevent an eyelid from intersecting an eyeball. When I adjust the ‘smooth skin parameters’ in the AA, and press ‘Update Weights’, all of the smoothskin weights are normalized, even with ‘Normalize Weights’ set to off.
Is there a way to adjust this setting w/out losing the weight painting?

Hi…!
Check the options of the skin Cluster. Set normalize weight to “Interactive” and check.
