Anyone know of a way to create .chan files from Camera Lightwave motion files?

Same thing crossed my mind. It seems like some sort of motion file. :wise:

.chan files are the motion data files used by the Nuke compositor. Its also the format used by Terragen 2 to import motion data. Aparently Maya can export in that format (and yes I have posted there as well) but I dont have Maya.

Just grab your camera, then just loop through all the frames reading the camera’s info, convert with a little maths if needed (you’d need to know the correct format for Nuke) and then write to a text ‘.chan’ file… A Generic LScript for Layout could do it fairly easy…

From what a few minutes research tells me, the file format is a simple text file, containing the data (tab delimited) for the camera at each frame as:

X, Y, Z position
RotX, RotY, RotZ rotation
Focal Length
Aperature Size

Then each line terminated with a linefeed.

Some fudging of LW’s data may be needed to correct it to work in Nuke… But nothing too complex for someone with Nuke to build and test, I’m sure! I don’t have, or use Nuke, otherwise I’d be keen to give it a bash…
