CgTalk:FXWARS! SUPERPOWERS! VIDEOGRAPHERS! We need you!

#21

so as some of you might have read on my team thread, I was trying to shoot the story boards tomorrow but I think I’ll need to push it until next weekend. I’ll be posting some shots and seq, from that for other teams to use. you can check out “the brute” story boards to see what kinds of fx there might be and start developing them.

I also might just shoot a few gags like Robert way asking for… Just takes a tab more planning but I think it can be arranged. I just wanted you guys to know I’m still trying to get some good HD footage out to everyone.

#22

Ok! SSJAaron and I just shot green screen plates for “the brute” and I will be uploading them soon!
Uh oh! did I mess up your plans destruct? – sorry!
we also shot footage for our own entry, but had a wierd filter on the camera, so the green screen footage is prettymuch unuseable. Oh well.
Will have to shoot some more!
Thanks y’alls
will get back to you soon.

Murphy

in no way, Totally if you can shoot footage and get it in peoples hands sooner the better! The Brute is open to all, and the footage will probably be quite different from each other, so the more the better! I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

#24

The more raw footage we have the better it will be for the challenge.

If you guys can have it done withing the next two weeks,
I can plug it, so new people
can use it.

I’m really going to try this next week to record a bunch of the “gag” shots. It will probably be on a normal consumer cam for now, until maybe later (if possible) if I can get a better cam at my school that I may have access to. (hoping to nab a gl2 for a few hours)

#27

MNAAA!
really, will get the footage up soon!
So sorry~!

#28

YA hurry up buddy! they need to be prepared!
lol

#29

To all filmakers, I need an update on how the recording of footage is coming along.

Just give us a status on this thread.

InitialTeam -The Brute! Green Screen Footage

#31

My teams ready to shoot tomorrow, have 2 hd camera’s, lighting kits, small crane(maybe), sound kits, light meeters, focus cards/camera kits, Director, Producer, sound guy, 2 actors, DP, PA… man, getting everyone together was a bigger process than I thought initailly it would be. I’m still worried that something won’t work out, but it should, we’ll be at Gnomon School so all the equipment should be there. We’re aiming for the morning golden hour getting there at 5am, so, here goes. I’m pretty excited about it. I really hope I’ll be able to contribute some great footage. Prolly won’t post it all, since we’ll shoot more than we need. I’ll try to get some good gags in there too. I’ll write again Saturday late or Sunday to let everyone know how it goes. I hope to have the footage up by Wednesday at the latest.

P.S. I’m not planning any green screen, just good well lite clean footage. I may be able to post some maya 7 files with good camera tracks for some of the moving shots.

ooh.
I am put to shame.

no way! Totally not, this is about learning, we’re in different places and what we want to learn, and try is different. I’m sure you learned a lot filming your green screen shots and you got them out a lot faster. I’ve done that too. I’m thinking for my reel I need, not want, to have pro looking footage, or it will be just an exercise, also the gnomon DVD’s I want to make from this have to look good or no one will want to get them.
So the only way I could get the help is to commit to a photo realisitic effects. Besides the actors are me and the director  the other motives for such a scale is we want to all work together on more side projects and this is good testing grounds. We’re all trying to do the best we can, I hope to help you guys make better fx and you guys will surely push me to make better fx also.
You guys did a good job, I don’t want people to be afraid to try fx wars because they think they can’t do good enough work (a lot of people seem to be afraid to try), this is all in the spirit of fun and coolness. Or that’s my take on it. I love seeing other people fx, and talking about it.
Lets see how my footage comes out. I only have a few hours in which to get it, or we’ll have to plan a reshoot/second day.

This is an FYI for all teams:

Ok so the shoot when really well! And the footage looks great, hopefully the acting isn’t too bad either  so the director has the footage, I’m going to pick it up tonight and I’ll try to get it online by tomorrow night. I’m going to go for some key shots to post, since we have 1 hour and 45 minutes of footage, and It’s not even close to edited down to what we’ll use and what’s junk. I’ll find 4-6 (maybe more) good shots and post those for people to use. with all that I want to do I’ll see if my entry will be the whole thing or just a few of the shots.

#36

Awesome!

Looking forward to it!

Ditto – can’t wait to see it David.

Turns out I’ll be putting this off for a bit. I’m in a production team class this quarter, and i have 1 other partner and we’re going to basically be doing the fxwars as a class assignment. We probably won’t be able to enter, as we won’t even have our footage for another 3 weeks (unless we use David’s… which we may end up doing…). We’re going to do a bunch of pre planning and R&D/storyboarding for this week and next, then I get married (week off), then I come back and we film, then we’ll have about another 4 weeks to make all the R&D look good and put it on the footage. I’d love to some HD shots, but i"m guessing we’ll get canon gl2 at best. The school is laggin’ on the HD stuff bigtime… not sure exactly where they’re at on this yet. If i was back in my old town I know a guy with two hd sony’s that would lend 'em to me, but that’s like 800 miles away, so it’s kinda outta the question… though that’s where i’m going to get married… hrmmmm… maybe I’ll just shoot there lol my future wife would kill me big time if I did anything but pay attention to her for that week!
So I probably won’t actually enter the “fxwars” as an entry, but I’ll be posting our planning and R&D and final stuff as we do it anyway no matter what the time frame becomes.

ok I need hosting help. It will probably be about 3 gigs worth of shots, I want to give people the full uncompressed stuff, maybe targa seq, if I can. So odd but the HD compression work seemingly only in premier pro! And I’m not really a power user of premier pro. I’m able to cut stuff out of there. Please PM me if you can help host, I’ll aslo look for those guys who said they could, when I get a few minutes to go back over the forums

destruct007 3 Gigs!!! wow, I believe that I can mount a FTP server, but cant be online 24 hours, maybe only 8 hours per day, maybe more. And because bandwidth limitation I must limit the number of users in the FTP at the same time, its not the best solution but can help for a mirror.

[EDIT]
If you want I can install the FTP server machine today, then I’ll give you an account for upload.

I will wait for your answer.

ok let me get the shots ready I think I can make them smaller, w/o lossing quality, give me tonight to see what I can do. My goal for tonight to get 3-5 shots we can work on. I’ll try tiff seq and see how well that works then maybe jpg seq, b/c it’s not like this is going to be projected on film… I’ll write more tonight/in the morning.

EDIT: 859mbs for 4 shots of jpg seqences @ hd rez.
