Creeto: That’s beautiful! I was going to do something with pretty colors too, but got bogged down in a quick sketching session to try some brush adjustments and ended up too close to my idea to let it go and start all over again… so yet another black and white piece this time, sorry!

I guess I should try to find a method which lets me work from a B/W sketch and gradually add colors. Hmm… Layering structure wouldn’t really support it currently.

Click to see the large one. Might be somewhat easier to spot relevant details.

Sazem: I have a lens almost like that… With the depicted stance you’d fall on your nose before getting a picture though. Those things are heavy

DrPetter, thank you

and don't be sorry for posting black n white....because you can always colorize it after :arteest:

it’s a beautiful image. just needed som color. i hope you don’t mind

Photoshop. I dropped the picture on a layer on top and changed mode to “multiply”
then simply colored it on the layer under. about 6-7 minutes

Haha, awesome! Yeah, that’s kind of what I might have been shooting for, but you managed to crank out way more dynamic and refreshing color choices than I probably would have picked. It’s very effective and mesmerizing. Definitely saving this one, thank you

The thought of taking it into Photoshop occured to me, but I have an old stale version with terrible brush control, hence why I try to stay in my own experimental app instead. It already has layer logic, but it’s forced to one temporary layer only since I figured that might be a cool workflow. If I do a little bit of fudging around I might be able to either use blending modes or just permanent floating layers that can be painted underneath. Don’t want to add too much clutter and sprawling options though. I like it when I can run without a visible interface most of the time.

What app are you using? (always looking for new drawing apps  )

I've been using most of the apps on the market and recently i've found a new gem...KRITA. i just love it. the brush creativity (and smoothing!) is awesome as well as workflow. give it a try

 [KRITA](http://krita.org/index.php) (free)

other apps i'd recommend taking a look at are:

 [DOGWAFFLE](http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/free/) (free)
 [TWISTED BRUSH](http://www.pixarra.com/) (there's a free version too)

i love these apps more then the expensive commercial ones. check them out

Ah. I’ll take those for a quick spin, but I’m sort of wildly incapable of adopting other people’s software these days, if it falls within the spectrum of things I can build myself. I tried Dogwaffle at one point but couldn’t handle it at all. What I’m using now is a bit of a quick experiment that has some decent technical foundations but not much in terms of GUI or configurability. I basically change the code for my brush and recompile if I want to try something different

There’s no public version uploaded yet, but I’ll try to let you know if it happens. If you like to try fresh and novel applications you should definitely take a look at Taron’s Verve if you haven’t already. It takes a certain mindset to embrace the organic nature of it, but definitely there’s something more than your typical Photoshop clone in there (if your computer can run it)

Great sketches today. Creeto, for some reason I can’t see yours. I tried IE and Firefox. Hopefully it will appear later.

Quick sketch 15mins.

…I can see it now. Great work, Creeto

Petter, i tried Verve couple days ago and i like how the brushes feels but there’s still lots of work to be done. interesting tho

Daniel, thank you! and nice to see you around. that’s one unhappy tourist you’ve got there

Uh, Ah, a Verve-conversation and I’m missing it? No way!
Work to be done…yes, indeed! But no matter how much work I will put into it, and it will be a lot, it will never be 113Mb, I promise you that for very sure! My goal is to keep it at around the size of a jpeg, hahahaha.
The biggest thing is going to be brush technologies that I’ve got in mind, which should be fairly unique as well as a brush-design interface that might add a good deal of excitement.
The other things are canvas implementations and a logic that should allow for some curious new ways to deal with that, color pallet implementations that aim at feeling open and natural, rather than digital knob-juggling (as opposed to much of the rest of features, haha), and of course some image effects/manipulations, more or less classic, but I aim at hooking up nice color curves.
Biggest hurdle is resolution related and how much I might stray from my original fluid-dynamics sandbox that it really has been thus far. Currently the whole thing is actually always fluid, you just control how much and such. It really leads to some very unique opportunities for painting digitally, but…well…it all depends on the power of your graphics hardware how large you can go with it.
Second biggest hurde…it’s just a fun project on the side and it’s tough to keep motivating myself alone, you know, since besides drpetter for personally supportive reasons, I believe, it doesn’t get anyone else to show interest. It’s always a boost, if someone appears to believe in the idea, of course, but the surface of Verve is not quite there yet to have that effect. Ah well…

Thanks for bringing it up, though! And thanks for having checked it out Creeto! Beautiful coloration, too, by the way… just elegant and inspiring!

I’ll add my take on “The Tourist” later, too!

I can really recommend the Krita too! I really liked how the brushes felt in that application and it worked great with Linux.

Im currently using Surface Pro 2 tablet to make sketches and Krita had tablet version out of it too but it was way too buggy to use. (or I didnt know well enought how to use it! )

Anyway Manga studio 5 (clip studio paint is the same app but sold only in by internet) is one I also recommend to try. Has pretty neat brush system and lots of nice features… only thing that took me while to grasp was that there isnt pen pressure control for pen but more option to control the amount of paint coming… after photoshop took me long time to learn.

I tried Krita now, but the brushes get very slow and choppy, if you increase their size and it feels just somewhat rigid to me. I’m kinda spoiled of the quickness in Verve. You can make a brush at the size of the entire Canvas and still comfortably paint around, really. Also, the brushes in Krita are texture based and don’t feel organic, more or less like photoshop brushes as far as I can tell. In Verve the bristles randomize for each stroke or even during the strokes, if you want that, which immediately makes it feel a lot more organic and stippling is quite pretty then. Also you’re not overwhelmed with countless windows and gadgets and all that, which I’m really distracted by nowadays. I even prefer ArtRage as its interface generally feels less intimidating.
BUT I’m sorry we’re beginning to hijack this thread here… don’t mean to.
