Umm… Because the autumn gods are clearly giant bird monsters hunting you at sea? I was going to do something with a colorful landscape but figured I could work birds in somehow, then I got carried away on a weird scribble session and went with that. Maybe you could argue that nordic birds move south during fall to go hunting in the mediterranean?

Weird theme! I look forward to seeing other creative interpretations.

50 min. The only thing I could think of was A Song of Ice and Fire. I’m pretty happy with the linework I’m getting from this Cintiq knockoff. Any tips on sketching backgrounds efficiently?

This is my first shot at the dailies. I don’t draw as much as I would like…time.

Oh man, this one took a bit too long, but it was interesting. So easy to make the background at somewhat over 10 minutes, but then I spent like 45 minutes just on figuring out how to make Libra work there somehow. I’m so damn stiff by now, when it comes to figures. I gotta do more of those and a heck of a lot better, too…it’s dreadful. Anyway…

Taron: Cool though! The abundance of details and solid colored patterns/objects makes the whole image pop out as very “rich and complete”, so kind of hinting at the fact that it took a long while to make. Still, 90 minutes isn’t a lot generally!

igamble: I don’t know. It looks good to me. I like the color scheme and consistent linework. Maybe you shouldn’t put quite so much definition in contours and patterns for the background if you want to work more quickly? Just try to communicate the same sort of things using flat abstract blobs instead. There’s also the trick of drawing one or two prominent objects in elaborate detail, then quickly filling out the scene with other vague ones that read as “similar”, so the viewer will project the detailed examples onto those as well. Probably requires some cleverly balanced composition though.

Sazem: I like muted earthy tones in general, so your old picture is actually more attractive to me, color-wise. The new one has much more elegant shapes and line flow though, and it looks more finished.

I should definitely try to work some color into my sketches more regularly…
