Long time reader, first time poster. Heard about this thread the other day when TheTaron started that “Countless New Artists, No Daily Sketches” thread. Thanks for the heads up! Just got a tablet, thought it would be a great way to break it in. Anyway. I instantly thought of HP Lovecraft’s Night Gaunts with this theme. Enjoy. And zyrq, awesome job in 30 minutes, I had to take the full time limit.

Welcome to our growing DS gang here! It’s so cool to see all this pick up again!
Keep sketching away and you’ll see how quickly you pick up new inspirations and methods. People do so many different styles here, it’s just awesome!

Good first entry! I really like the landscape feel in the background. Really has the feel of a book illustration.

zyrq’s painting is great, too. One can totally feel what he was looking at! Great job! (…what are those guys doing there, though, hmmm…hunting? Looks dubious somehow.:surprised )

I’ll add a sketch later, too. Nice topic for sure!

As promised, here’s my go at it and this was really, really fun and surprisingly quick! I wonder if it’s the night theme, or whether I’m just in a good mood right now, but well… AH, maybe because I just thought about what’s faster; painting or drawing. This one is practically entirely painted. Only the creature I quickly outlined first (1.5 minutes, if you can believe it, please do!) and then painted (6 minutes until the final specular highlights were sprinkled on! I’m not kidding at all! Maybe that’s nothing special, but I tend to forget just how fast this can go, if you have no worries and a decently clear idea.)

(35min) Verve (Yes, this is a link to the Verve forum for downloading the alpha version)

Outstanding, Thany! Do I remember correctly, were you part of the old DSF crowd? It’s so long ago…
However, just outstanding!

Thanks, yeah I was on here long ago when this place was packed and the daily sketches were voted on and featured. Not sure what has changed but seems a bit different now. Are you the same Taron that use to sketch here too or is TheTaron a different user than Taron?

Whoah guys!! stop making so amazing work!!.. I really had pressure to make this one good! Heheh maybe it was good a thing actually! :buttrock:

#9

Yes, same Taron, but it was so long ago, the email didn’t exist anymore so I had to make a new account. And all that only to find a totally abandoned, but somehow still kicking Daily Sketch Thread. I’m so thrilled to see it come back to life. :scream:
We did spoil ourselves back then quite a bit with so much excellence everyday.

Crowd here’s picking up mighty fine, too, though!

Sazem, that is exactly what I mean; the general quality is contagious, it pushes you automatically and you discover more and more of your potential.
This one looks great, love the feel of the humans in there, proportions and posture, totally believable. Nice lighting, too.

I took a peek in here and some fantastic sketches and had to join in  50mins.

YES, YEHEHESSS! :bounce:

Daniel, this is so deep on so many levels, I love how much it tells a story already, what ever it may be. Even a protagonist with complex character and a sense of history around him. Great stuff!

Thanks Taron! Yours is excellent as well. Very well thought out composition. I like all the landmarks that lead the viewer’s eye to the tent.

Wow, awesome entries everyone!!! So inspirational.

Very cool topic again. Made my Night Hunters Sci-Fi. - Didn't track time but something over 2h. :argh:
For the fighters I build an ultra simple 3D model and used it for perspective reference.
