Argh, a horse…tried to think up what one might look like. I once did a head of a horse in Sculptris, actually…anyway, it’s been a quick fun, but then I got carried away with coloring around a bit. Boy is it fun now!

You had time for a horse! I’m so slow. An hour and 15 minutes. Just the girl was 35 min.

But what a girl this is!
Obviously you’ve focused on painting, which can take time just noodling the right colors for light and shadow in and it’s so easy to get lost in that.
I’ve focused on drawing, rather, which makes the subjects some very quick sketches, but then I can relax and paint into/behind/around them. Even then it’s easy to get carried away, looking for proper shades and such.
It all depends, though. Sometimes a pure painting can go very quickly, too, and beat drawing by miles in terms of speed. Key is not to work with reference, because reference can suck you into insecurity and doubt, which costs the most time. But once you’ve started doing reference based paintings, it’s tough to shake it off again, I find. I hardly ever did that, but at some point I started experimenting with references and it’s easy to get hooked to that. I even did a few in some of the recent daily sketches. Now I’m trying to shake it off again… it’s rough. I feel like I suck, hahaha.
But at the end it is there- outside of any reference- where you find your true accent, so to say, who you are, how your DNA extends itself into your pictures.
