CG Masters Academy VS Gnomon [2D concept art]

#1

Hello everyone!

Thanks for spending your precious time to read this post. I would like to consult experienced Digital artist who have spent time studying online courses, not those that only attend University. I am a self taught and would like to complete my training in the areas of Foundation art & Concept Art.

I notice that Gnomon School of Visual Effects Online course, closest to concept art they have a section called ‘Entertainment Design’ containing:
-Anatomy
-Material Indication 001
-Photoshop for Concept Design
-Digital Painting
-Character design
-Imaginative Landscapes
Visual Development
#Each of these individual module are 10 weeks long, total of $7350[USD i think].

Meanwhile for CG Master Academy, their 2D programs are divided into 3 Program called ‘Foundation & Design Program’ , ‘Character design’ & ‘Environment Design’. Contains widely covered basics to advanced modules for each programs. There is about 9-10 module in One Program.
#Each programs runs for 6 terms. Ends with portfolio preparation for each program topic which also cost you $. Cost about $8000+ per program. I will attend all Three in order to fully study every aspect of Concept Art. So its probably about $25 000 including registration fees etc.

However i do not know the reputation & quality of this two online learning site. Can someone please advise me, im looking for one that allows me the best learning material that will prepare me for an industrial job. So that i may say farewell to my bartending job and be reunited with my dream career with great skills <3

P.S I got no money for University degree nor can i move overseas to study for now, im stuck in Singapore on my own

I have same question. I googling a lot and find very different rates of all, at now I confused more. Which one is better in online courses? Gnomon, or CGMA? But actually the best way is go and study on campus full program like FZD, Gnomon, which is really expensive. And also I find some reviews where people suggest to not spend too much $$ and try much more cheap courses like a conceptartorgs “Level Up” with ~90$ for 4 month, or take CGsociety workshops, which is better for online studies then CGMA workshop. But I cant see in CGsociety something like their 6 terms of foundation and design program. I hope people can help us and will give any suggestion before we start to spend lot of money for not expensive courses =)

To Gracho,
I guess it really boils down to careful thinking of their topics taught inside their programs then. Also where your skills are right now , what kind of training you need. For me im kinda like a starter, so i rather go for something that teaches me a full package of stuff. So most likely im going for All CGMS 2D Programs and get the One year unlimited video subscription at Gnomon for $499 to cover up things i may have missed out at CGMA, after the CGMA lesson.

I realise that CGMA, for their concept art modules, it has a broader topic covered than Gnomon ‘Entertainment design’. Meanwhile i do notice a lot of other 2D , colour theory and other useful things i can learn at their gnomon workshop site too.

I find CGSociety way too expensive, its always 4 Digit $ Cost, it feels like something you could afford if you have a career in the animation industry and those course are like brushing up on your existing skills. Anyways , if you kinda made up your choice or found something better, post it here. I’ll love to read the your choices updates too

Ye, you right. I spend ~1000$ for different books, and one of them is Scott Robertson How to draw - there is lot information about perspective drawing. But anyway, I think about Intro to Perspective in CGMA 1 term. Also I have some small but cheap courses on skillshare, and Human Structure course (which one is great supplement to Michael Hampton book). I am not so beginner, but I totally selftought and cant say in with level between beginner and intermediate I am. My searches show me that here in CGsociety workshops instructors take a lot more care about students and they ready to help you also after 8 weeks workshops - they are more friendly then in CGMA =) But its not my opinion, its just some info from reviews. Also I sure to take
“Becoming A Better Artist” Robert Chang course.
Absolute Beginners - Anne Pogoda seems pretty good too.
Reviews are amazing. At now I am in negotiations with one company, who want hire me, and one of my stipulation is sponsoring my online education, and I cant decide what to do oO. If they be able to partly sponsoring CGMA first program (all 6) terms it would be awesome cool! My dream is study in Gnomon campus, I think online program of CGMA better then Gnomons, but if we compare single workshops - I cant say wich better. Also here in CGsociety seems totally different workshops, and some workshops here are veeery unique. I already have some Gnomons DVD - they are pretty cool. But DVDs are far from developing your own skills as artist. But also in industry lot of incredible ultra mega cool artists which are learned without any online courses or any education - just TONNS of practice and videos from youtube =) I’ll loved read your choice too =) And asap I will provide some new information, if things gonna as I expect and I get in any workshop! Lets stay contacted. And maybe beginners can help each other =) *sry for my eng, its not quite good.
