In C4, I like to make a layer that it cast shadow but it is invisible to rays. That means I like to make a layer that have a 3d shadow but have not a light effect on it. It was an easy trick in old versions of Combustion. I choose the layer, in layer control tab I mark “cast shadow” and I unmark “Invisible to Rays”. Is was so easy. But in C4, when I made this adjustment, layer shadow just disappeared and the light effect on layer rest intact. Is there anyone who could say where is the problem…
Cast shadow invisible to rays problem

The problem is when you make it “Invisible to rays” you are hiding it from the rays needed to generate the raytrace shadows. To get what you want go to the “Surface” section of the Layer and turn off “Shading”. Now you can leave “Cast Shadows” on, but the layer won’t be effected by “Shading”.
Hope this helps,
