Cartoon lighting rig advice please!

#1

Hi all, I hope someone out there can give me some advice.

I’m trying to create a lighting rig that’ll give me a soft cartoon-feel to my enviornment. I’m trying to aim for something like this:

I’m trying to create some soft shadows and ambient occlusion and really let the radiosity help give that Pocoyo look.

I’ll be clear right now, setting up a decent lighting rig isn’t one of my strong points so any advice, however basic, is welcome.
I’m using 3DS Max 2010 and I have access to the default renderers - Scanline and Mental Ray.
If I’ve missed out some vital info, give me a shout.

Thanks in advance

If you don’t want to use mentalray’s sky light option ,all you can use is Dome lighting technique for this kind of render.

Cheers, I’ve actually been playing around with the radiosity plug in and I’ve been getting much better results now. I’ll research into dome lighting as well and see what I can get from that.

Thanks again.
