Can't create text in Modo?

#1

Can i create text in modo, i looked through some LightWave tutorials and noticed that, lightwave can create texts but modo doesn’t, am i right?

#2

if you look at some other apps they can even render things… just kidding

you will have to export text from illustrator or some other program that will make you a vector path ,then extrude or do whatever you want

#3

But can Modo import .ai, .pdf or some other vector files?

#4

Hi,

ai-file worked fine, but .dwg,. eps and .tif didn’t worked. Use LW to create your text and then open it in Modo.

Yes, if i have LightWave, i surely do so. But the problem is i don’t have LW. But i have Illustrator and Photoshop, how can i import .ai file? Just simply open it?

#6

yes, Ctrl+O to open it. Have to save early version of .ai (I don’t remember, maybe is v.8)

#7

modo loads eps files.

#8

yes, it has to be an older version. Tested v.8 and v.9 and v.cs. v.8 and v.9 worked fine but cs-file did not. Also, about eps-support, mostly it wont load the eps-file. Has to be a very specific version, perhaps Postscript level 3, don’t know.

Another thing I’ve encountered is that when you open an EPS file, you’ll need to copy the curves out of the original document and paste them into a new file. If you try to save the opened EPS file as an LWO object, or even perform some types of operations within the file, you’ll get failures and a number of bizarre and confusing behaviors. (at least you do with Modo on OSX importing Illustrator 9 downsaved EPS files).

That said, once you paste them into a new file, all is swell.

importing files from illustrator, photoshop and lightwave ??
why would anyone want to import a text LWO from lightwave to modo anyway?
and do i have to own illustrator and photoshop in order to manipulate 3d text in modo? that’s a weak side.

maybe the best solution is to wait a little guys… until luxology intergrates text in the next upgrade… or get some plugin that supports text modeling and stuff… i donno.
