Cannot see textures on models when I import them into Maya

#1

Hey everyone:)

I am new to the forum and also new to Maya. I am using Maya2014.

I am watching a video tutorial series on how to rig. In the tutorial, he is rigging a shark and gives you a free model to import into Maya.

The problem is, on his tutorial the shark is textured, but when I upload it to Maya, he is a flat grey with no texture on it.

This is what it looks like in the tutorial: https://gyazo.com/014554d27a909ea5fc22faf38ccf1820

This is what it looks like in my Maya: https://gyazo.com/6180c9c45aa61b13fc8d1debadba56a1

I have tried to find a solution. I’ve pressed the #6, I’ve played around with the hardware texturing (not sure if I did correctly, but I read it may be that). No luck so far.

Not sure if my graphics card would have anything to do with it but I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX670

Anyone have any ideas on what the issue would be? Thanks so much in advance for help you can offer

First, check to see whether the shader is applied to the object. Select the object, right-click > assign existing material and see if you have the shark texture in the list.

If it’s there and it still shows up grey, check to see whether the file node on the shader is is linked properly. Open the Hypershade, select the file node, and check to see whether the color channel has something connected to it.

If none of these work, it might help us troubleshoot to post a screenshot of your shader network. In the hypershade, select the shader and go Graph > Input and Output connections.
