can move/extrude normal in modo?

#1

hi. Trying modo trial and have a modelling question.

is it possible to do a move normal/extrude like in wing3d or mirai (never used but seen videos off)?

you know, select polygon and move it in the direction of its normal? command when selecting multiple polygons sees each move in their own normal direction but a common distance as determined by amount mouse moves.

even select multiple polygons, select extrude normal and the part of the mesh grows with all polygons selected extrude together but in the direction of their individual normals.

this is a big part of my workflow and modo seems a bit slow without it. probably me not knowing it well enough.

can modo do this?

Select the faces you want to extrude, extrude them without moving them. Press the SPACE-key to drop the tool. Select the Push-tool (Model -> Deform tab) and right-click -> click-drag in the viewport to move the extruded faces along their normals.

Or: extrude the faces, keep the faces selected, then set the Action Center to "local" and use the move tool to move the faces along their normals. This does not work in all cases though (e.g. if you select a loop of polygons around a sphere and want to extrude/ move those along their normals that won't work, you have to use the first method above in this case).

thanks a lot. now it makes sense why i couldn’t easily figure it out. a bit mre roundabout way of doing things. surprises me cause modo in so many other ways is a top modeller.
