Can I paint in 3d in Cs4?

I see photoshop cs4 has a 3d feature, Can you import a 3D model, texture it how you like, and then export only the texture that you created back into a 3d format? or is this just to enhance 2d work?

Yes you can - but, you do have to have a texture already in place with UVW mapping etc. I’m not sure how good the painting is on the 3D model - but from all appearances it seems to be the same as painting on a 2D canvas.

Here’s a preview: http://www.photoshopuser.com/?page=cs4/videos&video=corey_3d

I do not know how laggy it is or if the full spectrum of Photoshop capabilities are available. I cannot wait to try it though.

I was hoping it would work better than it does.
Using a 8800GTS 640MB video card with gpu enabled it couldn’t even handle a 40K model .
rotating it was awful. Click rotate, wait 10 seconds for it to rotate 15 degrees, click rotate wait another 10 seconds.

So I loaded an even simpler model , 10K polys. It lags bad.
Bodypaint and mudbox have nothing to fear :frowning:
