Can Blender 2.5 create models for a game?

#1

I am creating Models on Blender 2.5, I have great art skills but no programming skills I have 2 Programmers who are working on a project with me.

But my question is using the animations I make in Blender 2.5, Can those animations be used as characters and NPC’s for an MMORPG? and with the motions I give them in Blender how would it work in a game?

Would the programmers be able to take the model design and then Program it to walk using specific buttons? and would the motions i give it work out?

Anyone with knowledge about this would be so helpful.

Thanks.

Yep.

But in my opinion you might want to start with a smaller game project.

Of course, but it would also depend on your programmers knowledge of implementing animation into the engine. It would also depend on what of animations for the models you are doing. If its a windmill that turns a turbine then it might not need a bone based rig if the programmers can script the turbine to parent itself to the tower and rotate on its center axis. However, if its an organic object like a character, its usually best to build a bone based rig. There are 2 reasons why: its easy to add collision detection by parenting nodes to bones and you can implement animation blending to have smooth in game animations, such as transitioning from a walk to sprint or adding secondary animation like reloading during the transition.
I recommend taking a look at this link
http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/Manual/Animations.html

Although it might be the engine you’re using it might give an idea to how one might go about implementing animation into a game engine
good luck

It absolutely can! I make all my 3D models in Blender, and that includes weapons, maps, characters, you name it. I also do all my UV mapping and technical work in Blender as well.

You may want to take a look at the book by Wes McDermott on making iOS games with Unity3D. There’s a lot on the animation pipeline with Blender.

Of course… but as trancerobot says, better start with a more simple target to learn how to use blender, if not in a MMORPG with a fer elements and actions, etc the performance will be poor
