Can anyone please help with an issue here in mentalray render in Maya 2013 ?

  • When I render a master beauty of Key light on a layer it comes accurate but the diffuse pass associated with it renders much brighter than the master beauty. When I changed the Render pass mode option in the shader utility to “write shader result to beauty passes”, the diffuse pass comes fine but specular pass turns black.

  • Any proper setting to render diffuse and specular passes for an object perfectly having color-blend and remap-hsv utility applied to its shader???

-Is there any way to override settings in a shader utility for different associated render passes?

Note- I have tried changing Render pass mode to “pass trhough” and “write shader result to beauty passes” in the utilities but they both work fine alternatively for diffuse and specular passes not with them as a whole.

It has been a while since I’ve used 2013, but does your render camera have any lens shaders on it like the mia_exposure_simple/photographic? It could be that the lens shader is tonemapping the beauty pass but the diffuse/spec/etc passes are coming out ‘raw’ because lens shaders are not applied to non-beauty passes.

The idea is to combine all the raw passes together and then tonemap/correct the result in compositing similar to how your lens shader was working.

I am sorry for not mentioning that no lens shader is used in this case. Moreover, Layered shader is used wherein all the other shaders and utilities are plugged. I guess the problem is due to layered shader. I don’t know whether it’s a limitation of Maya or am I missing something.
