When caching nHair with passive follicles to fill in bald areas are there any specific rules? The cache ran through but when played back the passive curves joined in to one single point.

There is currently a bug with caching of passive follicles when useNucleusSolver is enabled on the hair system. For now I would generally avoid using passive follicles, unless you really need them. If you do then perhaps disabling useNucleusSolver would be an option, if you don’t need the better quality nucleus collisions/constraints.
I also stumbled into this problem a few days ago when trying the nHair stuff, and wondering what went wrong with my caching workflow. So currently passive hair follicles are not supported by nucleus system? It’s a pity because we desperately need this feature to speed up calculations. Will it be addressed in the next service pack, and is there any workaround for current users (other than resolving back to classic hair) ? Thanks!
I can’t comment on possible inclusion in service packs, and at this point I don’t know any workarounds.
If you are not aware of it something that might be useful is the clumpInterpolation attribute. This can be used in a somewhat similar fashion to the passive hairs. It usually works best when the clump width does not taper towards the end. If you just need to fill in hairs it can be useful. If you are rendering output curves instead of pfx you could assign pfx output but then convert pfx to curves. The clump interpolation can slow down playback if you you have a lot of hairs per clump, so I often make it zero when previewing the motion then set it 1.0 before rendering.
