C4D Spline Issues

#1

Hi,
First-time post for something I hope is a relatively simple solution (but it’s driving me nuts!)
I’m finding that every time I try to use a Spline with some form of Cloner/Sweep node, the result is offset WAY away from the Spline and I cannot figure out how/why this is occurring.

Originally I was using a Path-to-Spline generated Spline, and the fix was that I had to redraw using the Pen tool to get the Sweep NURB to act as expected - but I’ve since used the same redrawn Spline in an Object Cloner and it has reverted to offsetting the result.

Hopefully, someone can help!

Thanks,

Can you show us a scene?
My assumption is, that the local coordinates of the spline points (I mean, in relation to the origin/coordinate system of the spline) are way off.

Thanks for the quick reply, I can’t upload here (because I’m new to the forum), but have a link to the file here:

Ha, funny. I didn’t even know Kim Dotcom is still in business. Or are these just the ruins of his former one?
Not that I would want to express any sympathy, just reminds me of old times…

Now, yes, I have your test scene. But what am I supposed to see there? There’s only one spline and no sweep in the scene. I had hoped to see the broken setup and an explanation, in what way it’s supposed to look differently.

A few rules of thumb I use here, these are certainly not universal nor mandatory.

  1. Have your splines for use with Extrude, Sweep… drawn in the XY plane.
  2. Have them drawn from (or around) world origin. If I need a spline to adapt or merge with some other parts located elsewhere in the scene, I usually take an instance of the spline positioned over there, while still drawing the spline at origin. Don’t consider this good practice, but rather evidence for my twisted mind.

Cheers

Apologies - this might be not describing my issue correctly.

Your comment managed to take me back to basics and I found the (very Noob) error that I have been making.
I used placed the Geometry I wanted to Clone inside a Null - but the Null’s coords were at origin and not centre of the geo.

So when I dropped the Null on the cloner - it was making it appear well away from what I was expecting.

Centre the Null to the geometry - and there’s the solution!

Cheers for your comments - they did make me think it all thorugh differently!

No need to apologize for anything. Glad you found a solution.
