Building from the ground up

#1

I’m looking into building my own game engine. Problem is, I have no idea on where to begin on doing this. Does anyone have any text that I could read or any simple solutions to this? What have you heard/read is the most proficient way to go about this? I’d rather build than pay for one, since this will be made for high-end graphics, performance, etc. and I think that I can build one that will meet these among any other that will arise. Anything specific I should know before I get started? How should I go planning out what needs to be built first? What order should things be completed in? I know a modest amount of C++ and I am in the process of learning more and recruiting more programmers to help…

Thanks in advanced for the help fellas and gals…

ps-anyone wanna help with this daunting task?

Find out what features you want and need for a game engine. Reaseach and learn about them. Start making them for testing (seperatly) and keep working on them until youve mastered them. Then (somehow) combine your (knowledge) features together and put your masterpiece together. Then use it and re-enchance it

Until the day you die
Thats how i would go about. I dont know though because i am not a programmer

There are quite a few engines you can get for free but perhaps they are not what your looking for? I would say if you can find a free one that fits your needs that would be the best way to go, unless you find a really talented programmer that is willing to help you. From what I understand about building an engine (wich isnt a whole lot) is it takes alot of tweaking and some pretty good knowledge about proly more then just the c++ language unless you can achive what you want with only that. I am by no means even a noob programmer so…
