Building a business - your input

#1

Greetings!

I’m currently getting started with building a small business. It’s my goal to provide 3D visualizations to clients.

My main areas of focus are going to be:

  • Visualizations of architecture (exteriors, interiors, floorplans) and products
  • Animations
  • 3D Printing

Now, before I invest money and time into building a website I’d like to ask for some input from others who might have some experience in this field. What are the things that I should consider, especially in the beginning? What’s the best way to present my website in such a way that it’s informative and appealing to a potential client (aside from just posting finished pieces)? How can I optimize my outside appearance for clients?

I won’t just be marketing on the internet, but I plan to also call different companies, especially in my local area.

At this point I have a ‘day job’ which means I’ll be working on my business in my free time, but I intend to be able to pay my bills from this business and eventually scale it up to become a full-fledged studio with employees (however that is going to be years from now).

I’d really appreciate all kinds of constructive feedback / your experiences / input on my plans before going forward. I’m most interested in whether this is a sustainable model for a standalone business over time.

Have a nice day!

At the risk of being banned, again, I’d be surprised if you get an answer for which you hoped. Why would people spend their time helping out a direct-competitor? As if the people in India and China using pirated-versions don’t make it difficult enough.

Although, these days, you don’t need to spend any time building a website. Companies like “Square space” have a free, no commitment trial (No credit-card details necessary). There are other companies like Wix that are probably similar. So many templates etc that you’re up and running in no time.
