Brother's Grimm copyright?

#1

Hello, I’m an artist and would like to personaly produce and sell prints based off of the Brother’s Grimm fairy tales. The problem is, I can’t seem to find out who exactly owns the copyrights and who to ask for permission. I don’t want to start doing this and end up having legal matters taken against me. If any of you know who I can contact to ask permission, I would be very grateful.

~Mike Longfield

P.S. There would be 1 print from each story (dimensions: 12X16) and of course the title of the print would match the title of the story.

Thanks again.

They are public domain which is why there are like 3 or 4 different movies ahving to do with the brother’s Grimm in production at the moment. (Including the one that just came out).

So I take it that means anyone can use it? Can I still put the copyright symbol next to my name or no?

You can copyright your artwork, but the source inspiration is free for anyone to use. So, no one can use your actual images without your permission, but you have no grounds for action against anyone who makes something similar.
