Hello!
For years i’ve been working with blender for almost all my artworks, except for environment landscapes where i commonly use Vue or a mix of both.
I’ve been practicing 3d as a hobby for almost 6 years now and i’ve been doing a range of art going from archviz projects, usually interiors like kitchens and livingrooms, to fantasy environments where i basically go ape with what you could do within such settings. It’s a lovley contrast when working with 3d softwares to be able to range with such different looks on art and mood.
Beside my babbeling about the past i’ve finally been able to get hold of both Vray and Maya. I’ve followed a few walkthroughs and tutorials on both softwares and decided to take on my first scene in maya at the same time as i watched those videos. Its easier to “watch as you go” when learning a new software. The walkthroughs has just been teaching the techincal aspects of vray and maya so i also decided to put in a few interior design choices and architectual skills into place (the ones i have). So this scene is just a mix of some cool interiors i found on pinterest which i decided to put in practice to learn both the modeling aspect of Maya and shader techniques in Vray.
I’d nearly say the scene is done. But of course without any feedback, how should i know what i did wrong or what to improve?..I’ve come here in hope of a few thoughts and tricks of what i might improve or what i did wrong. May it be the lightning, textures or fur, it really doesn’t matter. It’s my first time working with these softwares so i’d really take feedback on anything within the scene that might be out of place!
So just a few thoughts of mine and issues i dont like in this scene.
There is some know issues with this scene that i still haven’t found a clue for. For example a spot missing on the rug that’s sitting on the chair, and the cat that looks a bit out of place because of some weird translucing outline. I also dont like that the rug on the ground looks too translucent, which makes it look too soft. (i want a sharper looking rug!!)
Mabye there is a simple techniques to avoid these issues but i’ve come here to mabye get an idea of what direction i might aim for, with the lightning, shaders and so on! I’ve simply chosen to make an indoor scene because it’s easier to make adjustments with lightning and to clearly see how the shaders and materials react with each other. I’m still very unfimiliar with Maya’s interface and tools so alot of modeling could’ve been done better, but i forced myself to do everything i could in Maya and not Blender.
I attached a link for larger display.
Thank you!

Any tips on avoiding edges cluttering in distant angle?
