Breaking an object

hi i would like advices on how to break an object in 3d studio max. i would like to break appart a little statue (with inside empty). It is for a still image and i would like to break the object from my inistial statue and preserve the textures.

if anyone can help me or give me advices on softwares to use it would be greatly appreciated :wink:

You could use one of the many free scripts you can find here at the forums. Keyword = fragment.

A while ago I found a script that was called (I think…) ā€œSplitItUpā€ā€¦ Search and thy will find :smiley:

You should try the ā€œprocutterā€ tool combined with reactor.
If you are a subscribed member at Autodesk, you will find a video tutorial in the subcription center of the autodesk website that explains exactly what you want to do.

First you have to draw a few splines (in front view) that represents the fractures in your statue. The splines should not self-intersect each other. After that, use procutter to actualy devide your statue in different pieces with the help of the splines you drew. Now your statue should be a assembly of different pieces, all as a different object. You can nowseperate them by hand or use the dynamics in reactor.
