Body topology

#801

so what your syin is not to use covert to Subd but smooth or the smooth proxy an use a wrap deformer to animate?

#802

offtopic one sorry:

does one of you know the sort of american defense link , i had it some time ago , lost it.

it has super high res portraits of all the people working there, really good for text reference and clone.

#803

The Department of Defense? http://www.dod.mil

#804

lol steve i think you should send a persoanl request to vnuk maybe?? throw some ur weight around

#805

Yes on the first part, no on the second. Just Smooth Bind your model, then do a Smooth Proxy on it.
To control deforming, don’t use weight painting; first use the Highend3d.com script SmoothFlood, then Blendshapes (as I just mentioned, as many as you like).

#806

ivo D, I think you mean http://www.defenselink.mil/photos/People/Portraits/

#807

…ok…made a quick blendshape for you…what you think ?

#808

Now that visualboo mentions it, and I see the blendshape wire, the mid-part of the nasolabial fold looks fine… but I’m not sure about the top and bottom ends of it. I mean the topology, not the actual shape, which is quite good for a quickie.
(Also try to fill in the nostrils with shadow somehow, I’ve found that if nothing else helps, make it dark in the texture map.)

#809

Well the result looks decent but how does it look when it moves? Would you mind doing an example here for everyone? Maybe a blendshape or two more and a quick animaion? I’ll even host it if you want.

Hey guys got some free time and i started back working on my girl have a question about the butt however tell me what you think…for ome of you a may be a question of preference i guess im trying to find out if there are any problems

thanx for the feed back

#811

sorry about that piece of cloth

#812

That peice of cloth worried me for a minute Ziah  at first glance it looks really nice, but closer inspection I don’t think I’ve ever seen a butt that connects to the leg like that… (the area’s that I circled). The lower part of the buttocks I think should flow a little more smoothly into the side of the leg.

I also have a quick question, how do I setup blendshapes for the joint rotations? is there a url that will describe this for me?..

#813

Hey Ziah, it’s funny, I just started working on my girl again too because of the free time. You ask for opinions. I can’t really say what your going for: is she old and frail, or is she young and petite, is she supposed to be sexy, or is she supposed to be plain? I will guess and say you want the ideal good-looking girl. If so, I would say that the middle tendon/muscle where the lower and the upper legs meet is a tad narrow. I think it would portray more realism if it was more full. The line on the this tendon (I have the same fault) is too imprinted and slanted downwards. If I’m not mistaken this line is more horizontal. The thigh muscle looks a bit sharp and muscular where the thigh meets the back leg/buns. The inner leg muscle at the top section needs more elongation, flowing into the leg - it looks bruised or a bump. The buns and the tail bone on the whole I think should curve outward - I see it a bit concaved. Here is a picture to show what I mean, and I think a good reference for what you are trying to achieve (I’m not sure if I am allowed to post photographed nudes, sorry if not.):

Since I have given a critique, please give me the luxury as well:

(It’s not join, hence the middle crease.) The wings weren’t necessary but I liked how it looked. Steven you being the one of the best women modelers of animation and the varied like, please critique my proportions. Mine are always distorted.
Now I would say the forearm hand section are too long in length. The knees and thighs meeting section is not rightly done. the chest is to imprinted in the middle, the hands look too smooth, the crease where the chest and delt meet is unnecessary, and the knees are to puffy. The thigh looks creased in the middle. I would also say that the legs are a wee bit short, or maybe it looks that way because of the elongated arms. Is there anything I missed from the picture? No textures applied. Just a simple Steven shader and GI-fake lighting.
2nd)I’m most worried about, like I critiqued Ziah above, how imprinted the lines of the side of the leg tendon are.
3)One of my greatest faults is leaning the character.

Oh and DasP I love your buns. Very pleasing to the eye. Most particularly the creases and the plumpness you achieved. May I model my next female figure after yours? (No joke.) Just gorgeous.

But i am not really here for proportions. I am wickedly uneducated when coming to body topology.

I’ve always modeled my models in polys. And not informed on rigging and animation technicalities. Please give me pointers. Your help would be appreciated Steven and all others willing to make a sacrifice in making my knowledge more complete. Judging by some previous comments, I may have gone overboard - Hee-hee-hee. I did try to make the topology flow right. Sorry if I didn’t catch previous statements made to uncloud my errors. This happens to be a 55 page thread with 56K modem load times.
Please Steven I don’t mind being torn apart. I want a solid critique. What can I do to make it better? I have Sub-D’s but not knowledgeable about it, and still basically consider myself little over a beginner. So like Denzel says,“speak as if I was a 4 year old.” -Philidelphia. But if too time consuming, then just give me quick exacting tips of what I can do.
Thanks everyone.

(I can't believe it took an hour to post this reply.)

Does anybody know how to load a picture?

#815

pictures have to be linked from another site, or attached under the ‘additional options’

#816

snow u may need to add some code
hmm how the hell can i view this hmm adding http doesn’t work for me

#817

Ziah, good model, but the butt looks a bit ‘slack’ to me, because it doesn’t seem to have the right curvature in cross-section.

Pardon the slightly sensitive nature of this image but in order to discuss the butt I think there has to be images of it… and this is a particularly useful one, since the perspective is unusual - it almost shows a perfect horizontal cross-section. Granted, the pose is slightly asymmetrical, but I guesstimate the section at the widest point to be roughly like the red shape.

#818

It looks to me like your on a mac SnowTurtle (or does xp do that too?), and just linking from your HD.

#819

Hehehe - lol Corth. Your right, it is a mac. Still trying Ziah.

#820

With the mac I can’t seem to post the image, nor link to it. Sorry for the incovenience. Here are the links.
