Body topology

#521

Nothing like that. I’ll post the difference later today… it’s a serious flaw…

#522

If it only happens during raytracing, it sounds like you have reflectivty on the shader? maybe? The default .5 reflectivity in the Blinns gets me all the time

#523

Not the case, since when I put reflection quality, refraction quality and shadow quality to 0 it still renders grey… whenever the check next to raytracing is on, there are problems, even if there is nothing to raytrace… I’ll reinstall maya and see after that

derbyqsalano:

thank you, you are right about that, i am about done now with the adjustments to the upper body/arms. changed the topology flow abit more to favor the muscle groups and thinned the arms and shoulders to be less buff.

I do not like the modeling of the ear. The outter ear that trims along the entire upper ear, where it folds out is to thick and meaty, it should be more of a cartlege feel. I am having a hard time explaining in words so here is a paint over to assist.

thats as close as i can get to visually showing my crits about the ear.

I should be posing tonight, or tomorrow my repairs.

Hey everyone. This thread is great.
I’m working on this character and I’ve been trying to keep my edges following the muscle structure. It gets kind of messy at times, and I’ve spent a lot of time just trying to clean things up and get rid of tris. Anyway, I just thought I’d share, and maybe get some crits from you guys.

There’s smoothed screengrabs as well as the pictures of the head in my WIP Thread

Modelled in Wings

it looks strange to the lower part of the back bone. It shouldn’t be that visual on the lower part.

Steven, this is a little off subject, but seeing how you are already here. How do you do your eyelashes? What procedures are you using to make the geometry follow the closing of the eyelids?
How do you get the skin around the eye to follow the movement of the eyeball. Also how are you animating the tongue up and over the teeth?

Cheers

Im not Steven, but I feel I can share my technique for the better… There are a few ways to do eye lashes, one is Painteffects/fur in Maya, another is a plane that covers the entire length and is textured, or you can just model a hair and animate it over a curve, make the scale animated over the curve and add a random to it, then duplicate the hairs.

Eye lids is fairly simple in my opinion, use skinning based on bones in the face, that rotate, or if the distance is relatively short, you van use blendshapes, you might even try using a cluster for each eye lid…

For the tongue it seems you could use IK or IK Spine Handles, and blendshapes… depends what you prefer.

#529

heres what i got from those crits, help me get this right. need to move on and complete texturing in the near future. =D

thx guys.

The basic shape and the details are well enough, I guess you just need to apply lattice to touch up the proportions.

The lower arm to the rist, to the hands are way too thin. Thicker it and give it some more volume. Arccording to my knee, it is quite big. Yours are too small i think. Same to the feet. The foot’s length should be the same as the lower arm. She has small feet right now.

#531

HapZungLam: thanks! will get started then…

heres what i have done since last post, relaxed hands, and worked on wrist area abit, still need to thicken a few areas up i guess.

#532

Think we lost about 2 pages in the hack-attack here, if you can remember what you posted I’d appreciate if you repeated it. I lost 2 or 3 of my own, but I can’t remember most of it… except I replied to AlexanderM’s question, about SubD’s versus Smooth proxy I think.

#533

Ow, think I posted too many images?

Here are they again… there goes another 2 pages…

#534

its a shame, about the denial of service attack. such a great community here, that suffers from the ignorance.

here is my new character in progress, that will be fighting the previous one, shannon. Ive got some nice tricks up my sleeve for the animation.

this is the vampire character she will be figting, I know vamps are not orignal and have been done many times, but this one is a samari, the mask he will wear will be simular to the one in the pic, with a diffrent gorget attached. He will be bald (thank god) =P and wearing an outfit so it will take me less time to model. (yay!)

old post lost in hack.

#535

grrr :frowning: we’re under attack?

Stahlberg :
Yes, I got the answer for all my questions, Im following the thread carefully and I learn alot.

Btw, Im reading a book ‘Stop Staring’ from Jason Osipa about facial animation and its very interesting. He’s not using FACS directly but there is similarities in his approach.

Derby :
We lost your wireframe shot for the clothing, may ask you to repost it? Next time you will post it I think I’ll keep a copy on my hard drive just in case!

Hope it’s usefull to someone

#538

Derby I just started a new thread, about cloth topology. You could post this there too.

#539

Ok, I would be honored

very nice mesh posts on the clothing derb! thanks a lot. of course i have my own ideas, but i can really benefit from the comparisions. much love!!!
