Bahahaha! great stuff subway surfer!
Bobby Chiu's Subway Sketch Groups!
here’s some more stuff from the subway series. Remember folks THURSDAY is the jump off day for who ever wants to get involved in my magically delicious subway sketching group! I’m starting out at 11am at Grand Central on the East side, Downtown Platform. Im boarding a #6 train riding it to the last stop at Brooklyn Bridge, then Riding it back to 14th street and Union Square. I’ll be wearing an “ELGIN” Grafetti hat and will probably hang around the station for a little while so if there are straggelers we can meet up.
OK So I am very eager to begin my sketchin!. THis Saturday I am going to test run my sketh group in San Jose. If all goes well this weekend then next weekend we will be official. I also want to get this started so that We ( whoever joins the group) get inspred by places other that the train station. There are so many fun places to draw. Here are some quick back of the head sketches I did while at my brothers graduation last week. Tell me what you think and what I should work on. THanks!

Hey … CapeTownian here… I will hopefully start a Cape Town sketchgroup sometime when Ive collected enough people
Good to see all this enthusiasm… its electric!
All of you guys are so inspiring ![]()
It’s a very good concept,
I want to start a subway sketch group in Paris, I’m looking for other members from France, so If you want to help me to create it, send me some PM
Bobby Chiu’s PARIS Subway Sketch Group DONE
SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH
fabian84 - Hi Fabian! great to see you getting into the sketching spirit. Your sketches look great. I’d love to see some front views though. How did saturday go?
fabianv - Hey CapeTown! The best way to start a group is to just post it and start going. At first there probably won’t be too many people coming… probably only the ones that you invite personally. but people will catch on. for the meantime consider it more as something you do for yourself
Booyaka - Hey great to see Paris catching on! excellent
Well I would LOVE to start one… is it possible to make the venue… ‘‘pending’’ ? For just a month or two
Thanks for replying Bobby! Well I went Saturday morning and took the train to San Jose. I ran into a couple problems. 1) Im an early bird. I got up at 8 o’clock on a saturday. There werent many people there to draw. 2)The train that I got on had bus sttle seats so it was nearly impossible to sketch the 2 people on the train. So when I got to the station I stuck around there and did a couple sketches. I had to leave quickley so I dont have much to show. Bobby I was wondering how you approach a sketch that you know is gonna change in about 1 -2 seconds but its a damn good pose and you really want to get it? Do you quickly do a gesture with a few quick strokes? This weekend is the 4th of July so I will be going back home for a weekend vacation. I will post some sketches when I return. Oh and I will prevail in starting the San Jose Sketch group. Muahahahah

Ok, so i guess i’ll post my favorite sketch (that i did anyway) from my group thus far. it’s from last weeks pub drawing session (but I do not reccommend sending your group there, it wasn’t a great place to meet!). Click on the link in my signature if anyone wants to see more. I usually post the weeks sketches on the first page so people don’t have to go digging.

theres some amazing work going on here, i am considering starting one of these sketch groups when in September i go to university in Newcastle, UK…
me and my best friend are both going to be studying architecture, but want to hold on to life drawing… seems a great way to do so… they have the ‘metro’ system in newcastle which is kind of the north of england’s answer to the london underground
and Bobby, congrats on all of the things youve done/won… your work is amazing, i love your olympic runners… reminded me a bit of my favorite artist, kadir nelson
Roberto, Is there some way I can change the name of my Chicago thread? I just want to take the word “June” out of the thread name.
Thanks
Hey everyone.
I’ve added a new subway sketch group. We will hopefully be meeting in the 17th of July. Here’s the link:

Here is my first post from Ottawa - well er - Nova Scotia, Canada (vacation).

The images are pretty laid back (boring). I will try and crank up the energy in future posts.

Replaced previous image with my first Ottawa post:

Gord - Very nice!
I have a question for Bobby, or anyone else who’s actually had a big group show up. If you have more than just a few people show up, do you all stay on the same subway car, or spread out through the whole train? Just curious. Not that I’ve had to worry about it yet. But maybe…someday.
