blending colours ?

I just started digital painting … can you guys guide me best technique for blending colours … I like to smudge colours for blending but i have read on most sites do not use smudge,dodge or burn … so if i use lighter or darker tones in my painting how do I blend them after blocking colours so I dont have those brushes strokes.

hard edge brushes with opacity set to ‘pen pressure’ work well also get in the habit in photoshop of one continuos stroke not scrubbing back and forth to color

You might try applying a blur( motion or gaussian) to the area.
