how stable is blender compared with 3d max?
blender3d stability
Just about eleventy-seven.
It really depends on how you use the software. Blender in general seems to be very stable to me, and 3DS Max has made huge strides in recent years as well. It also depends on the plugins you are using, as they can often be a source of a crash.
A HUGE difference is that reproducible bugs that crash blender hard can be fixed really quickly by the devs, there are a lot of builds between big releases that do just that.
I know of one production around where I live that is full blender (animation + rendering + compositing) and they’re really happy with it.
Not to start a Prohibited App comparison but I recently spent a week doing a feature comparison between Blender 2.6+ and My main app ( C4D R11 studio)
and other than GI rendering and some of the dedicated motion graphics tools of C4D
Blender stood on par and even surpassed C4D
particularly in areas of modeling
and BUILT IN visual effects Smoke&Fluids.
The rapid speed of bug fixes is one of the best aspects of Blender’s development model.
Have an issue with a bug or crashing and you can post here;
http://projects.blender.org/tracker/?atid=498&group_id=9&func=browse
And you’ll get a response within a day or two, and if it’s not a major bug a fix will be within a couple of days, if that long at all.
At the moment there are 161 open bugs.
But as they are documented and in the open for everyone to see you can check to see if there are known bugs with certain features before you use it in production.
Just so everyone knows… the OP was only using these posts to get through the required postings so that he could harass Leigh. This among other accounts.
