Blender lip sync softwares

#1

Any other good ones, other than Papagayo?

After reading Stop Staring I think that lipsync software is overrated.

But why? Is there an alternative method to the tedious manual lip syncing?

It’s less tedious than you think. Sure, it will take time to do it right, but the alternative would be lifeless automated lip sync. What I’ve read in the book is that the wrong way to tackle this problem is that you shouldn’t link a mouth shape to a phoneme. Look at Kermit the frog: Open, Close. That’s all there is to it. Your brain fills in the gaps. Like the letter M or F, only in still frames you would like to tuck the lips in or something, but in a animation sequence, you’ll barely notice the difference between a lot M, F or P for example, yet your lip sync would remain believeable. Just look at the first Toy Story without the sound. Not many variations there either, but no one notices because people are focused on the eyes, the gestures, and foremost: the acting.

Automation has its uses (for crowds in the background or something or if you need the timing right to clean up afterwards), but it doesn’t take into account that the same phrase could be spoken in many different emotional laden ways.
