Blender Game Engine and high res images?

#1

Bit of a general question but how well does blender cope with high res textures?

I’m hoping to use blender (or similar) as a visualization tool, using photogrammetry techniques (when I learn how to do them!) such as on the Image Based Modeling DVDs from Gnomon.

Basically cutting out forground objects from photos and offsetting a load of image planes to give the illusion that the background is 3D.

And this would be in addition to me modeling proposed structures including their interiors (most likely in 3DS Max or using an engineering modelling package). I also need to add trees in some form and textures, and of course lighting, most likely in the form of a sun or HDRI or interior lights where possible. [not the aim of this thread]

So before I go for it I’d like to know if I’m using the right tool? I looked on Youtube for some examples but didn’t see any that were doing this.

Thanks

Hey thanks for the tutorial. I’ve been looking at the same technique in Max, watched some tutorials, but not tried yet, I think I’ll probably stick with Max as far as possible mainly as I know my way around and can find all the buttons. Blender does look very good though - especially for a free app. The plan is to use this technique maybe in conjuntion with some similar ones, but with multiple images to create a whole scene rather than a still.

Any idea how the game engine would cope with this kind of resolution on textures? Not worked out how I’d bake these images onto objects yet.

Wish I wasn’t studying part time… would much rather be focusing on computer graphics in my free time, rather than the assignment I’ve got on the go on my other monitor!
