Best Ultrabook for Artists

So as my old laptop is getting ready to be retired, I want to get a good ultrabook to replace it. For me, having the freedom to paint anywhere will be very important. I have a desktop with a cintiq, but as my family has grown, I find the idea of going to my basement office frustrating enough that painting has fallen by the wayside for me. So I want an ultrabook that has the best possible stylus. It would give me a much better path to getting my artwork back up and going which would be awesome.

In terms of form, I really like what I see from the Lenovo Yoga, but it seems pretty hard to find out anything about what (if any) kind of stylus a given model supports. Can people share their recommendations, or perhaps resources where you can find out about such things? What is the kind of stylus I should look for?

I too was looking at the Yoga, but finding a retailer that has one was a challenge.

I can say for sure, that I tried the Surface Pro and while the stylus worked pretty well, the applications I used in desktop mode just didn’t suite my needs. It was so compact, it was just frustrating to use any menu or tool.

Other OEMs have some interesting devices like the ASUS Transformer Book TX300. Their AiO P1801 would be awesome, if it supported pressure sensitivity… but again, you’ll need to get your hands on it to check it out. Though finding a solid app for Android while the device is detached might be a hurdle.

In my opinion, I would wait 'till the fall of this year to see what kind of Haswell devices are pushed to market… I would expect to see more mobile/powerful tablets and ultrabooks with full multi-touch gesture support, and hopefully some with pen/pressure sensitive capability. They will undoubtedly come with Windows 8.1, so you might want to start checking with software vendors to see if they’ll have either Windows Store Apps or support for your drawing software of choice.

But, as it sounds you’re looking for a way to work anywhere, most Ultrabooks give you that flexibility, especially the convertible kind that go from laptop to tablet (like the Yoga). There are also different ways they convert to suit your work style. The Yoga bends, some flip screens and others have the screens completely detach.
