Best rendering engine for animated human skin?

#1

Hi all,

I’m currently starting a project in which I have to replace part of the skin of an actor and make it move with him. Which rendering engine would you recommend for extreme realism and little or no flickering?

Of course I know I’ll have to work on a very good skin shader, a nice lighting setup, etc. If you have tips for those too, they’ll be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

The built in mental ray sss fast skin shader is excellent for very realistic skin if you are able to handle it.

Both Mental Ray and Vray’s SSS shaders are capable of creating very realistic skin. Flickering and realism will come down to your render settings and shader setup. If you have the time, painting textures for your Epidermal, Subdermal, Back surface and Unscattered layers will give you that extra realism and extra control.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot. I’m giving MR a try and I’m getting interesting results. Unfortunately I can’t show anything (NDA).
