Best render software for creating sheer fabric material (Cinema 4d)

#1

Hi all - I’m trying to recreate some fabric like the photo below. Is there a render software (Vray/Octane/Redshift etc) that is best suited towards creating sheer/translucent fabric like this? I’m working in Cinema 4d - Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

From my understanding, any modern render engine that follows the PBR pipeline will produce identical results.

For example, Compare Arnold’s Sheen/Cloth shader
https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AF3DSUG/Sheen

With Vray’s cloth
https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAYSKETCHUP/Fabric+Materials+Category#FabricMaterialsCategory-PreviewGallery

Not much difference, both are using fresnel principle.

To make it see-through I would apply a black and white alpha texture and use it for the opacity but gives the value a bit more subtlety.

Any renderer can produce decent results but be aware that sheer fabric is very tricky if you want to get the proper behavior. Here is an example from my fabric collection for Corona for C4D: https://www.3dtutorialandbeyond.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/preview-trasparente.jpg
I’ve spend quite some time to get correct results(based on physical samples) and there’s a large difference in quality compared to a simple shader builded using a Fresnel and an opacity map(I’ve done that too for faster/approximate results).
