Belly from xsi 6.01 default rig not working.

#1

I’ve looked for this and only found answers for ver 4.0/2 which didn’t help me, I’m not after much all I’m doing is using the rig guide creating a rig with belly and ears. When I move the rig the ears move properly but the belly is cemented in place and will not move. I’m learning xsi with ver 4.0 tutorials which are out of date for the belly or so I’ve read.

If anyone could please help me out, let me know if I’m missing anything or maybe just go through the steps to create a basic rig. Or even if theres a bug i need to avoid I’d be eternally gratefull.

Many thanks.

I think there is a bug on this…
you might need to position-constraint (with the CnsComp on), the LowerBellyEff to the Upper Belly effector.

I’m not totally sure because it was a friend of mine that used this… So you might try it out in a test scene before consider as the final solution.
But it’s basically it, a constraint that is missing in the biped creation.

Now about create your own (I would go this way probably), there are many different solutions.
You can for instance create a complex rigid-body systems and use it to drive nulls that are enveloped on your character. Like I did for this character:

or you can get this tool http://www.xsi-blog.com/archives/259
and adapt it to make your belly rig. Constraint it to the spine and that’s it.

you can use a set of constraints/scops like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/nervo/2422054444/

have fun.

I’ll try that soon and let you know if it works,I really appreciate the help!

I´ve the same problem and I think there is a bug on this, too.

To set the constraint from the LowerBellyEff to the Upper Belly effector seems to be the half solution, because it just effect that the LowerBellyBone starts to move, but the UpperBellyBone is still cemented in place.

When you set a position-constraint in the opposite direction also, both BellyBones work as expected, …BUT you create an cycle in dependencies and XSI suggest you to undo the constraint.
I know that in the old XSI-versions where a scripted operator on the position kinematics…?!

So the Problem continues exist and I would really gratefull if anyone could please help us out.

Many thanks.

P.S. @tc: Thanks, for your list of alternative solution-links. They are really helpfull!
