I’m in the process of getting familiar with Mudbox, and I was hoping someone could clue me in on the most efficient way of creating certain kinds of details. Lets say I want to make this guy:

What is the best way to create the ornate gold trim around the various armor pieces? Should I model it in Maya when I’m making the base mesh, so the trim is a second mesh sitting over the base armor mesh? Or should I create it Mudbox, using a stencil for the trim design? This would be rendered to a normal map btw. Thanks!
