Okay, so I’ve been trying to start learning game development for a while now. I have a really short attention span which often ends up with me just giving up. I need some tutorials for complete nooby stuff, and advice on where to start. I’d like to have basic knowledge in all the catagories (art, programming, etc.), as well as starting tutorials for UnrealEd and Source SDK. I’d really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance
Beggining game development
Brightside,
Wow, where to start. First there are about a million threads on forums that are more based on Game Dev then 3d art that will get you started. Check out http://www.gamedev.net for lots of good information.
The hardest way to get into game development is teaching yourself programming. Buying and playing a moddable game that you really like and making a mod for it would probably be an easier route. There are a lot of mod projects out there, you could look into getting into one of those.
There are also about a million different books which your local megabookstore will have on the subject. So you might want to try there.
All in all its a huge subject that can’t really be explained in a forum setting, but hopefully some of these pointers might get you in the right direction.

Concept Artists, Modelers, and Texture Artists needed for Indie RPG
first off you need a simple language to learn, i recommend darkbasic, it is simple fun, and very dynamic so it can be easily used to do just about anything(also you wont get board or frustrated with it) you can download the trial version, or get the full version (for about $75.99) at this site this was my first language, and i still use it alot today, next i suggest you get maya ple and use the tutorials along with a book on character animation in maya also use the tutorials at this site. then you should go and buy maya (about $239) you can get maya and maya ple on this site then you can model your characters in maya and export them to directx files which can be used by darkbasic, so you’ll need an expoter that exports in the .x format. this exporter comes with direct x sdk 9 which can be downloaded here that is what you’ll need for the basics. so i hope this helps.
Maya Complete is $1999. Maya Unlimited is $6999. Complete is all you need in most cases, especially game development. There are also student licenses of Maya availible. Last time I looked into those they were $500 a year, not sure what they run these days.
