Battery-Operated: short film

#1

Hey everybody,
I have an idea for an awesome team project! It’s a 4-5 min. short. The story takes place in a robotic world. It’s about a happy-go-lucky, rogue robot that cares for no one other than himself. He meets a girl robot and it causes him to change his attitude and outlook about life. I would reveal more about the story, but I am fearful that someone will steal my awesome idea for me.

I have the story all laid out and am in the process of converting it to help facilitate storyboarding. I have a couple of people that are going to start doing concept art soon.

It’s important to note that I am not going for a realistic look, I’m leaning more towards the bright, cartoony look of some Pixar films. So think cute! I promise the story is emotionally stirring and has the potential to be as good as your favorite CG animated film! :bounce:

All manner of skills and people are welcome to join! This is a learning experience for everybody involved.

This is an unpaid project, but you will receive credit for all the work that you do. Members of the project will receive a copy of the film on DVD w/ bundled extras such as commentaries, interviews, still galleries, biographies of people involved, etc.

This project is going to be highly organized with status reports, deadlines, etc. Assignments will be handed out and will be expected to finish by the completion date assigned. Note that we are looking for people that we will see this project through to the end! Even if everybody that joins drops out, I will continue to work on it to its completion! We are also hoping to show the film at festivals everywhere.

Right now I’m looking for basically every position under the sun.

Don’t be shy, if you want to animate, model, draw, edit video, etc. Every position is open! Note that some positions will have a set number of openings. For example, we can’t have 20 video editors. We also don’t want people stepping on other’s toes.

A website is being developed for project members and will be ready soon.
So if you’re up to a fun challenge, let me know in this thread! :deal:

neat, I’d like to join up! I can do video editing and/or modeling.

Very cool nerrazi! PM me your e-mail address so I can add you to my project contact list. The story conversion is about done. I’m getting in touch with some concept artists to go ahead and start pumping stuff out for the modelers. I’m also going to get with one of them to start storyboarding.

Cool to have you aboard!

#4

Very cool, now we’ve had a few more people join in on the fun. Don’t be shy people!

We definitely need more of everything (especially concept artists!), so if you want to contribute feel free to let us know via this thread!

A small update on the status of our project. I have a couple of concept artists working on the design of the hero robot right now and another one working on props, buildings, etc. As soon as the concepts are approved, they will be sent out to our modelers to model and rig for animation.

The NDA is being writtent up and will be sent out to those involved in the project. So no detailed story or information will be sent out prior to the release of our CG film. Sorry, but I guarantee it’s well worth the wait!)

After the NDAs are signed and returned, the script will be fowarded out to give participants a very good idea of what I have in mind. :bounce:

Sounds like a fun project. I’ll be checking in to see updates in the future.

I’m pretty busy with my own project right now, but I never know I may be able to
create a model or 2, just for a change of pace from my project.
But it depends on the style and complexity of your project.
I also make music…

Good luck. PEACE, OMAR.

Sounds really fun. I’d like to help with music if you have that position open. I am uploading a sample now. I also like directing (I currently direct my 3d ff style PC game).

Hiya GhostFaced! Please check your PM.

This project interests me, and I’d love to know more. I understand you’re protecting yourself from concept thieves, so can you tell us at a few things not related to the concept? What is the projected finish date for this short? How many empty seats still need filling at this point? What software will you be deciding on? And other additional details you can spare.

Hope you read this soon!

Hi GhostFaced.

There seems to be something about Robot Short’s and me so i think it is fate calling me to work on them. So far the others have gone quiet but you seem really determined to finish this one and that makes me want to be a part of it.

Let me know what i can do in the 3D Modelling Dept. and i will try and help as best i can.

I am also a Web Designer by trade so feel free to call on me for that as well as 3D modelling.

Cheers

I am highly interested in joining this project, but if I’m not right for the position then please let me know.

An update regarding the project: I’ve had to drop a concept artist because he was not producing at all. So I tapped an artist friend of mine who’s created his own comic book from scratch and he’s agreed to join our team as a concept artist. So with this concept artist we plan to get things of the ground quicker.:bounce:

Also, the NDA’s will be making their rounds tonight. As soon as you receive them, sign and return them. After I receive the signed copies, I will foward the story out to people that signed them.

As for the project completion date, I’m aiming for summer of next year. It will last anywhere from 5-10 min. Do you guys think this is enough time?

One thing I need to point out is that we need more concept artists to join, so if you know of one let them know that they are needed here!

Thanks to all of those people that expressed interest in joining this exciting project.
