Basic DirectX question

#1

I’m getting into animation and an animation program is requiring me to install DirectX.

I did some cursory googling and saw an article that says there’s been a debate about whether DX12 is an improvement on DX11, my questions is, which DX should I install?

My graphics card (according to device manager, I don’t even know) is ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series and this is Crazytalk Animator I’m using, if it makes a difference.

Check with the support website of the software you’re installing, in this case, which is Crazytalk Animator. They should list system requirements clearly and in an easy-to-find location on their website, but the company Realillusion doesn’t. I had to dig deeper to find this answer:

http://kb.reallusion.com/General/50024/At-the-end-of-some-Reallusion-programs-installation-the-installer-will-prompts-for-DirectX-9-installation-would-it-mess-up-my-system-since-it-does-hav?kbkeyword=system%20req

At the end of some Reallusion programs installation, the installer will prompts for DirectX 9 installation, would it mess up my system since it does have latest version of DirectX? (for Windows OS)

During our program installation, if the installer detected there is no DirectX 9 currently being installed, then it will prompts for the installation.

Installing DirectX 9.0 will not harm your computer in any way and it can be safely installed alongside the latest version of DirectX 10/DirectX 11/DirectX 12 since they are independent program and can be co-exist together.

In another word, even if there is DirectX 10/DirectX 11/DirectX 12 exists on your computer, you still need to install DirectX 9 as per the system requirement.

Alternatively you may find DirectX 9 from below link: -

That’s weird, that it requires 9 even if a later version is already installed.

Thanks a lot for the help!
