Baking Smoke & Fire Questions

#1

Greetings Blender people!

I’m following this tutorial on CGtuts:

http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/blender/introduction-to-smoke-simulation-in-blender-2-5-day-1/

When I closed Blender and went to work on it again later, it seems I lost my Bakes. I try to render and I just get a black screen, like there is nothing in the scene. It’s like I lost all my Bake Data. I rebaked it and the fire was fine, but I can’t see my smoke. Is there a way to reset the path to the files in the BlendCache folder? Or do I always have to rebake? On day 3 of the video he starts out in Video Editing and alters the Opacity to get rid of the Particle (residue) I think he called it. It looked so much better but doesn’t explain how to do that and I can’t seem to figure it out. Anyone know how?

Thx,
-Dave

The save directory is the same as your save in the .blend file.
Save your file before baking.
Try a build from www.graphicall.org for your sytem (trunk), they have fixed many many bugs since the first beta.

Wolfgang, greetings from California.

Thx for the response. Had that all done before I baked, file was saved, directories all set up. So I’m still in the same situation.

Thx,

Mm, i agree, very strange handling. I make a test file, bake high resolution, run animation, save file. After restart my system the first run is a little slow but then it works.
I think you or me call #blendercoders at freenode.net for better instructions. :deal:
Heheh, i know they never sleep, i’ll try.

Ok, i’ll do, they don’t sleep really, setup your file, save, bake low resolution, bake high resolution and it work.
