backface selection

#1

There’s a recent(?) change in Maya that’s doing my head in that I am getting ever more frustrated with:

How on earth do you select objects with reversed normals without having to marquee?
Why did autodesk do this?

I can’t find any setting anywhere to disable this “feature.”

Example: create a plane or a cube, reverse normals, and try to select the bloody thing by just clicking on it. It doesn’t work for me.

Please help.
Maybe my google skills are crap, but I can’t seem to find the correct answer anywhere.

working fine here (2017.5)

ok odd. im in 2016 i wonder if it’s maybe different because of that?

i’m still having the 2016, so i tried and it also worked.
Try to temporarily delete your pref folder to diagnose the issue.

Ah-ha! Found the answer, in case anyone else is wondering:
Hi everyone. Thank you @mspeer for the file that worked perfectly to recreate it and this is a known bug. The temporary fixes I’ve noticed are to change the viewport Legacy Default. Outside of that my recommendation, especially if you’re working in a scene with many objects, is to have the outliner open and have all your objects named properly so you can select or deselect from there as well. I’m still looking into this as well for any other fixes/workarounds.All the best, Maya Technical Support SpecialistSean.Heasley
Basically, autodesk says to switch back to legacy viewport, because it’s a known bug with Viewport2.0.

must be specific to something, cause it’s working here.
are you on mac?

In the meantime here are my specs if you are locked to maya 2016.

i tried on maya 2016ext1 sp6
win 8.1
nvidia driver 388.13
and the Viewport 2 is on OpenGL
