B-Movie Entry: Yanick Martineau
This is a better sketch. I still don’t like the composition, not quite what I have at the back of my mind, but it gives me a good idea of the modeling work that I have to do.
Biplanes great everything is better with biplanes. Good start look forward to seeing some progress.
Here are my Sparrowhawk biplanes for the scene. I did not stick to accuracy in details, it is a B-movie after all
Nice Biplane looks like a cross between an Siemens and Shukert DIV and a Boeing P-26 peashooter. Don’t know what kind of detail you are going for or if it is early 30’s or earlier. Generally radial engine planes like these don’t have such visible exhaust pipes.
Thank you for yours comments Dann-O and ScottMC, it is nice to get noticed in this plethora of amazing participants. Yes, I took some artistic licenses with the modeling. The exhaust pipes on the biplane where added to give something for the light to cast shadow from, so that the planes that will be the furthest from the camera still register as volumes… and I just tough they would look cool
As for texturing, I don’t want to do an overdone dirty CG look cliché where things are more beat up that they would normally be in real life, but I’ll go for a slightly used look. Not pristine, but not ready for the wreck-yard either. I might make a clean shinny version of the biplane after the contest just for fun.
Take a look at some of the American paint schemes from the late 20’s early 30’s. They had bright colors yellow wings blue bodies many of them had glossy paint that cleans easy so they were not dirty looking for the most part.
Here is a link with a few color pics of P-26 peashooter schemes. http://www.aviation-central.com/1919-1939/ada30.htm have fun with the challenge .
I’ve decided to add a pilot to the biplane. Even if we might not notice it in the final image, it would still feel weird to me to have planes flying around with no pilot.
Most of the modeling should be done, (unless I forgot something) and now the exciting task of texturing everything and working on the final composition. I’m still not locked on the final layout and it is driving me crazy
