B-Movie Entry: Maxim Pereguda
Hey Maxim,
The colors and ambient for the image are looking really nice. Perhaps you can contrast a bit the image. Your main source of light comes frome the TV. The TV generates a cool light (blue tones). You can add some blue light over the characters and trees. For the contrast, if you are working in photoshop you can add an adjust layer (in the top menu select LAYER / NEW ADJUSTAMENT LAYER/ choose HUE/SATURATION click OK on the window, drag the saturation bar to the left to -100) This create a Black and white layer of your image, you can check your lighting and contrast in it. You can turn on and off this layer to view your color image. You can use dodge and burn tools over your original color image, with the adjust layer ON, to see in the moment the changes in contrast and light.
Good work and waiting for more updates.
Fernando, many thanks for councils. On this sketch I have tried to adjust light and contrast. And ‘‘turn on’’ the TV
. What variant is better?
Ello Maxim,
So I like the TV with the scary movie on the most!
…emerald seems to blend in too well with the surrounding colors, and the blue just looks like its projecting a solid white screen…
Hope this helps, Cheers!
Aaron, thank you so much for your help!
You confirmed my thoughts. My ‘‘off-line’’ friends like the TV with the scary movie too.

Hey Maxim,
Cool updates, like the new versions with the TV turned on. I think the magic emeralad version works really nice with the concept, puting a great mood in the image. I like the first image too, with purple tones, a bit more “dark” feel than “magical” feel.
Nice work and waiting for more updates. Cheers!! ![]()
Hi, Fernando!
I all the same tend to the violet version and thanks for support and attention.
This is looking really nice so far - a lot of great attention to details! I think the piece overall could use some strong adjustments of values, as everything is pretty much the same midtone value. As an experiment, try turning your image into a greyscale. What stands out then? (A similar experiment: Just look at your image’s thumbnail in the forms. Can you tell who the main characters is, or what’s going on?) Stronger value contrast would make this a much stronger painting. Try making the frontmost characters lighter in value, and push the background further into the back by darkening it… or do just the opposite and silhouette the girl more by making her dark and the bears and background lighter. Either way, more contrast would help instead of everything being in the mid-value range. Good luck! ![]()
Hi! thank you for commeting my work. I really dig your work as well, actually i made a very very short animation (it a 4 days contest, so the quality ofcourse is pretty rough) and it has somthing to do u with you work.

Walrus, thank you very much for your support and suggestions!
I tried to adjust the image, present below 2 options.

I’m not on a very big monitor right now so I’m only able to see one at a time… and I can’t tell the difference between the two. I can see you’ve added more purple in the foreground, but it also looks like you’ve added more contrast in the far background, which makes it harder, not easier, to read. The real key is looking at your thumbnail in the forum thread list: You should be able to look at an image that size and tell what the basic composition is, and I’m still having trouble reading yours.
For an extreme example or three, check out these thumbnails:

See how even at that size, you can tell what’s going on? You don’t need to push your entry that far, really, but it’s something to think about in terms of strong value contrast. That’s just my opinion, though… Good luck! ![]()
I have certainly not yet have enough experience and knowledge, but in any case, I’ll try. How about a picture (with more darck background)?

I think, my composition does not allow to make a good thumbnails, without trouble reading
Software: Photoshop
20 years have passed since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Secret projects have been phased out, research laboratories closed, and lush vegetation covers distant ranges. Nevertheless, creatures produced through biological experiments still roam vast expanses of dark Siberian forests.
This story resembles the tale of Goldilocks and three bears. However, present-day Goldilocks serves in SUCAM (Special Unit to Combat Artificial Monsters), while bears are a product of a beastly experiment of the First Siberian Laboratory of the Beastly Biological Weapons (also known as Omsk-19). A lot of hunters and tourists have disappeared in the vicinity of this abandoned secret laboratory. Attempts by the military to destroy the evidence of experiments at Omsk-19 failed- mutant bears are hiding! A young but experienced agent Goldilocks is sent on a mission.
And so the bait doll is positioned in front of the TV with the sound turned all the way up, bears are edging in on their intended victim , but SUCAM’s secret agent is confident of her mission’s success - the monsters will be destroyed!
