Hey Marley,
Great image!! Love the color and lighting mood on it, awesome. The clouds put a fantastic touch on the background, and a great detail are the waves in the foreground out of focus, your image gains a lot of depth, with that.
Congratulations for this great image and all the best … now, time for a really well deserved cold beer
Cheers!!
Bonjour Marley,
Great image ! I agree with the other posts, the mood and colours are amazing, very oneiric. I just love the coloured pencil feel that it has. ![]()
thank you both so much, its great to have the both of you visit!!.
cheers for the vote of confidence
Marley
I think this is the best I’ve seen of yours, Marley. And echoing what was said I think the only problem is it’s more of an A-movie scene than a B-movie! Good luck
Hey you 2, thank you both so very much.
Bill, yea i agree with you it was pointed out it was more James Cameron than errr that B movie director im trying to think of. hahaha. cheers my friend
Simon, Thanks so much for the lovely compliment, Its not an accurate depiction for B movie, agreed but the whole process was a joy to paint, which was something i had been grappling with for nearly a year now.
Great to see you both in the competition.
Many Thanks
Marley

This image was inspired by the many movies and television programs that required the use of “Water Tanks” and “Miniature Models” to create their visual effects…
Movies such as The Abyss, Tora Tora Tora and 20,000 leagues ‘UNDER’ the sea…
Derek Medding’s effects for “Thunderbirds” and “Krull” were a thrill to watch growing up.
Thank you
I see whats happened, sorry for the necro post, this is my first challenge using the challenge up loader
Yep, I think that’s excellent. You’ve got the most difficult part, the lighting, bang on and as a result the piece has a solid, engrossing focus. You’ve also managed to get a good sense of depth with the foreground wave. A flat sea would have been boring whilst the deck of a ship up that close would have been distracting, so that works great. The lighting of the sky complements the light from the alien craft well too.
A couple of things, though, just for completeness
The helicopter on the left looks too dark. Lightening up on that value slightly would push it into the distance. The perspective on the nearest ship is too extreme. I think the distant ship could be made smaller and both could be brought more towards the horizontal whilst altering the nearest ship to show less of the deck.
Nice job!
hey lightsovereign,
your work, that, as far as i remember, was the first being done, is unique and very captivating in its motive. ![]()
i especially like the depth-of-field-effect that the water in the lower right corner has. and the lighting is impressive where it hits the water or the almost nacre-like surface of the “thing”.
best wishes for you and your entry,
greetings from out a cold swamp and thanks for your support,
bran
