B-Movie Entry: Krishnamurti M. Costa

Some posing and lighting tests. I chopped both models, turning them into two mannequin proxys. This way it’s much quicker for me to pose them, instead of rigging or using transpose. Those processes will be used at the end, when I’m satisfied with the final poses.

Those processes will be used at the end, when I’m satisfied with the final poses. I added a 50’s kinda bar stool to help with the poses. I’ll add a 4th character to the scene and two props that will help a lot to tell the story. Stay tuned for my evil plan, muahahahaaaaa…

#183

Just great!
You should leave this chopped characters as they are and give the alien a big and sharp knife
Good luck to you!

#184

Awesome Kris! The composition, the colors, the light everything is soo perfect

#185

Love the direction you took for the poses and lighting.
Im sure you got some crazy fur tests on your hard drive

#186

Ok, i quit this challenge… wait a sec i dont even have an entry on this challenge lol !, this is just Amazing Kris, all my respects i cant really wait to see this finalized!! the IRS thing with robot arms and laser beam eyes, and of course exposed brain it’s wonderful! and still is a WIP :surprised, just great

#187

Looking great Kris! Looking forward to whatever else you have in your master plan

Vimmy,
thank you my friend and keep the kick ass work coming!

KiMiK, FranciscoAlvarezDelgado, webhead,
thanks a lot!

hemlok,
indeed!

ravioli_rancher,
hahaha! Sweet comment! You’re a funny man and I love your entry so far!

RageOfAges,
I 200% agree with you and yes, my plan is to cover everything is uncovered now, including the girls things (awwww… :frowning::smiley: )

Aven99,
thank you good sir!

MDR,
ha! Thank you

Kong-in-Chains,
the eyes shader is actually incredibly simple. I can post something over the weekend. It’s just a fast skin shader for the eyeball/sclera and a transparent blin for the cornea.

gpepper,
now you got it

collings,
man, it’s my pleasure. I’m the one who should be thanking the community for being such a constant source of inspiration!

thejeff,
back to you my friend! Love your entry.

PELENG,
you sir are a master and I can’t wait to see your final and kickass entry!

Eskarina,
thank you so much! I love what you’re doing

jocz,
actually not! I’m kinda concerned about the hair. If everything goes wrong I’ll end up by painting it. I’m trying to use only the softwares that I have licenses, so no chance to try any fancy renders like Modo or Vray or even shave and a haircut plugin. So, I’ll stick with Maya/Mental Ray and will see how far I can go with it!

AdanVC,
thanks!

angel,
long time don’t see you around man! Are you going to participate of this one? Fun theme I’ll tell ya!

Ah!!! Love the relation between the monkey and the Pinup girl! Looks so sexy and weird at the same time… Bmovie style! =D

Gostei! Força!!

This is looking just so amazing, Kris! The colors are fantastic and very period. I’m not as big a fan of having the title right over the center of the poster, especially when the upper left is so empty, as it takes a little away from the beautiful image. THe woman’s expression feels a bit empty right now, not sure whether that was what you are shooting for. Sexy models can certainly be vapid, but myself, I like seeing more expression and emotion. But that’s just down to personal preferences, I can’t say it doesn’t fit as is, though!
Great work!

Sweet baby jesus

Looks very cool, i like them chopped!! like this haha

Lookin as if it was straight out of that time period for 50’s or 60s B movies…Very impressed with how you set up the composition…i see rule of thirds as one of them.

Not much to add to the chorus already unfortunately, but really well done!!

really great to see you in another competition mr.antropus !
i remember when you won machineflesh ;me and my friends in college would sit around saying ’ man how does he do that?!antro is the man!’ you are a major source of inspiration always
cheers,
damien

Wow, some really impressive models. I love the alien and the chimp is just amazing. :bounce:
Personaly I am not sure about the pose of the lady and the chimp. From your inital sketch I was expecting the chimp to run towards the camera with one arm up to shield him from the laser beams. Right now they seem to be quite unimpressed by that alien.
But these are just my 2 ct. You have done an amazing job so far and I am looking forward for the next update. :arteest:

Updated on this one:

  • reworked her face and expression, most notably her chin, cheekbones, nose and eyebrows
  • increased the size of her eyeballs and then increased the size of the irises
  • increased the length of her eyelashes
  • changed her left arm position. It was echoing bonobo’s arm and that was bothering me
  • started modeling her shoes
  • did a quick and cheap paint over study for her hair style and color
  • did a quick paint over for their outfits

Now I’m ready to start the UVs for both characters so I can finally add some nice texturing instead of plain polypaint.

Malanjo,
obrigado meu amigo!

walrus,
her facial expression is still in progress but should look better on this recent update.
Thanks.

LightSovereign, TyroneMaddams
thank you!

MayaDamien,
thank you so much man. I can’t believe that was 6 years ago o_O

Russel-Nash,
still working on her expression but he is going to have a major update on his facial expression. I’ll model his teeth so he will be showing some anger towards the alien, don’t worry. About her, well, she is caught on her own little world of being pretty… those pin-ups can be so futile!

#197

HILARIOUS man!! this is amazing stuff Kris. I love the hammock

#198

antropus, this is really excellent work. probably my fav in this competition. excellent poses and great character design!.
can you explain a lil bit more in depth about the choped up models; the way your posing them? just curious how your gona go on about reprojecting the detail onto the original models or is that even necessary? never seen posing done like that before, unless its a standard way of doing it and im completely out of the loop haha
thanks!

#199

Gio,
thanks for stopping by man. I’m glad you’re liking it so far

big-whoop,
sure. Chopped characters like this are normally used in production. Animators would pose and animate characters using proxy versions of the final models that sometimes are the actual asset, only chopped so they can animate faster since there are no deformations involved but mere objects that can be freely moved/rotated. So I’m doing the same thing here. Instead of worrying about bad deformations and time consuming skinning, I just chopped them, moved the pivots to where the joints should be and voila: ready for posing in seconds! I’ll not transfer anything from those proxy models. They are merely a reference for the final poses that will most probably be done in ZBrush transpose or Maya, maybe a little of both. All changes are being made to the original models, not the proxies so there’s no need to transfer anything. I can just import those as another subtool and work on top of it

Cheers,
-Kris

Nice work, I like the changes you have made to her face.
