Nice model Jody! looking forward to seeing the scene develop
B-Movie Entry: Jody Valdes
That is so cool, love the Zombie Chicken so much!!!
(I think I have something about chickens
) The Girl character model is great, really nice!
Thanks for the encouragement guys!
HeadSmell, Thanks, I hope I can finish the whole scene in time!
Paperboy, Chickens are great indeed. I was originally going to make it a cup-cake monster but the chicken looked funnier.
Xion-Cajou, I’m glad you like the style so far. I hope to make the textures a bit cartoon like aswell, hopefully it will all work well together.
Darthmikael, It’s technically a chicken and not a turkey … but in it’s current condition I guess it doesn’t matter much!
Here is a textured chicken ready to terrorize kitchens everywhere. I need to tweak it a little to fix some seams, maybe make a nicer bump map and to tweak the material settings etc. but it will do for now.
I also modified the legs of the chicken as someone had suggested. I think it was a good call, It makes it look more like drumsticks.
Looks like the deadline is pretty close! I suppose I could use less sleep.
Here are some textures for the girl character. I tried making a more realistic skin shader but it didn’t turn out so hot. I suppose this will look ok though since the scene is cartoony anyway. Onward …
Here is the latest on my kitchen scene. The textures are well under way and I’ve got a lighting pass started. I’m not exactly sure what to do with the far wall yet but I’m sure that ‘running out of time’ should inspire a solution
Good progress on the textures so far here !
Maybe the hair of the girl look a bit flat maybe too “yellowish” too… But she’s really nice anyway.
Keep up the good work !
This is looking fantastic. I love your cartoony style - it’s consistent and imbued with a great sense of fun ![]()
Paperboy, JUDZIGN, mdavid, Thanks for the encouragement guys!
Gopher3D, I agree that the hair is pretty flat now that you mention it (I just copied the head mesh to make it). I’ll try to revise that before the deadline, it shouldn’t take long if I get the crititcal stuff out of the way first
As for the hair colour, you may be right there too. When the scene is assembled with the final lighting, I’ll see what colours need tweaking. Thanks for the feedback.
Latest update (from yesterday but didn’t have time to post): I made a texture pass on the stove and fixed some odds and ends. I threw something on that far wall. When in doubt, I guess citrus fruits are the way to go! I think I like the lime better than the orange …
Next up, I need to pose the girl in the scene and give the chicken a more menacing stance. The stove could use another texture pass too.
Let’s see an update with the cute woman in it! Right now I like the yellower wall more because it fits with the warm colors and grabs the eye less… but it’s really hard to tell which color will work on the wall the best without seeing how she fits into the composition. Whatever you choose needs to make her pop the most. Can’t wait to see her in… Good luck! ![]()
There we go, both characters are in the scene now. There’s some slight deformation issues to fix since my rigs were made pretty quick! I’m still playing around with the poses and composition and I’d like to try to add one last prop if I have time to make it.
In my original concept, the girl had a book of ‘forbidden recipes’. It would be good to have that since it would help with the story element; idea being that she was trying to make the perfect chicken diner (for her visiting in-laws) and she turned to the dark arts to do it. Very logical!
A friend at work suggested that I try a more dramatic lighting pass on this scene, so here it is! - and on that note, thanks a bunch for your feedback Carolyn (Also known as ‘Anomalous’ on this forum).
Left to do … I’d like to make one last prop and do some minor fixes on the characters’s silhouettes and maybe play with the framing of the shot.
Haven’t left a comment in a while but have definitely been following (actually I get insider sneak peeks, so I’m pretty lucky).
Dude, this is looking fabulous, and I can’t believe how much you got done in this last week. You can totally push this over the brink into complete awesomeness. Just one all-nighter and 15 coffees to go!
Or just call in sick on thursday…
But seriously, way to stick to it (that’s more than I can say for myself) and I’m happy to see this so close to completion. Kudos and can’t wait for the final!
Walrus, Thanks for the feedback. With the new lighting pass, it ended up adding an orange cast on most of the scene so even the green wall blends in much better now. I’ll try a render with the orange texture later just to compare.
Anomalous, Just a few tweaks to go and I’ll render it out
Thanks for the support.
You’re right, the green does work okay with the model in there. I have to confess, I don’t think the lighting is quite working yet - to tell the truth, i actually prefer the earlier lighting! It seems a little odd for her to be cooking with no lights on overhead. The previous lighting shows off the cartoony models well, and seems more natural for a kitchen. Maybe you could add in an overhead fill light…?
Good luck! ![]()
