Hey everyone,

My idea right now is to make a parody-of-sorts of the 1944 b-horror film “The Soul of a Monster”.

EDIT: I’ve decided on changing the story to make it more horror-esque…it’s now become “The Soul of a Clown Head”. He’s going to be a living clown head, who gets carried around by his evil minions. After all, who’s not freaked out by clowns?

Just testing out some compositions…I’m not sure If I’m going to try and mimic the original movie poster exactly or not.

Also–whew! Even though I like working traditionally and scanning things in, I think I’ll have to go digital for the rest of my concept stuff just so I can keep the file sizes down easier! Right now I have to mega-compress everything to get it under the 150K limit…

Larger composition and color studies to follow soon…

Here’s where I think I’m going with the composition of the poster…also, I’ve started working with some black and white values to get the mood of everything.

Here’s my second color key…I like where this one is headed and think I’ll go in this direction. The clown definitely needs to look scarier for the final though :).

I did a rough sketch, switch up the composition a little bit, and started the painting process. Here’s the image with the sketch laid over top so you can see where I’m headed. Comments or critiques more than welcome!

Getting there…the painting has been a bit of a challenge for me, as I’m not used to doing it (at least not on this scale!)

Frank was just a normal, loveable circus clown. But when a terrible freak accident left him bodiless, a mysterious sorcerer presented him with a new and shockingly hideous life. Now, shunned by the ones who used to call him their friend, Frank will stop at nothing to take his revenge, leaving all to wonder: “Where is the soul of this clown-head?”
