B-Movie Entry: Jan Jennes
A rough first version of my image based on the theme “Rise of the surfing Zombie”: the living corpse of a drowned surfer rises from the sand to annoy and kill everyone. Enough story for a B-movie trilogy in my opinion. (sorry for the late upload…it’s my first challenge and i barely managed to finish in time before the deadline passes).
The sketch for my surfing zombie done with pencil and scanned into photoshop as base layer for my image. I would later realize that i made the sketch to wide. I wanted to keep the sunbathing woman anonymous (head outside the image)and with the same proportions as the zombie with her hips in the center of the image. Thats why I later on changed the position of the arm.
Early detailing of the zombie and the sunbathing woman. I wanted an well oiled lokk on the skin of the woman so i first gave the woman a matte skin base layer using soft brushes and later on (not on this image) i would apply the wet highlights painted with a hard brush on a seperate layer.Note aswell that the upper torso of the woman is still to long.
My final image. Completely done in PS (except for early sketching). Important for my image was the fact that the attention is drawn to the main character. That’s why the woman’s head is outside the frame. The zombie is the star. Much like the Jaws poster: well visible threat attacking an unsuspecting anonymous victim from below. To give the image a real B-movie feel the zombie was vital. Maybe a little bit predictable, but aren’t all B-movies? A third aspect that was important was humor. That’s why it’s not a “usual” zombie but a surfing one. B-movies always have stupid … euh original heroes/bad guys (killer tomatoes!). I hope you like it! C&C appreciated!
Software: Photoshop
My final image. A burried living corpse of a drowned surfer waiting for the right time to start murdering innocent sunbathers.
Sunscreen won’t protect you this time!
