James Ashby is entered in the “B-Movie” update: View Challenge Page

Latest Update: Work In Progress: Getting the comp sorted

Right then, I’ve finally took the plunge and decided to enter a CGchallenge, Here’s my first thoughts.

I thought it would be cool to do a skit on 3D, for me its synonymous with kitsch creepy 50’s B movies, plus its a good excuse to have an interesting visual style going on. It’s also a kind of knowing nod to the contemporary 3D hype train, and just to seal the deal, I thought a 50’s drive in cinema would set the scene nicely.

So… yeah, thats my idea! I think it’s got legs, just unfortunate that I’ve got 14 days to try and pull it off!

Any feedback would be immensely appreciated, I’ve been a long time lurker here, and just to be able to have some top guys opinions/thoughts on my work would be amazing… Thanks all and good luck.

Hopefully this will illustrate what I’m going for a lot better than the scribbles beforehand. Just need to sort the composition before I get carried away. There’s too much space on the right, I think the screen should take more space but I really want the chevy’s in shot to set the 50’s tone and I want to stick with the same ratio if I can.

The 3D effect wouldn’t be a cheap filter effect either, but just to get the point across…

Gonna have a good dig around the entries now, some amazing stuff on here

I like the idea as it cleverly incorporates the ‘movie’ part of the theme as well, but think you could perhaps go for a more dynamic viewpoint, and given the short amount of time left you are going to need to be clever with how much you have to do.

Have you thought of doing it from the perspective of someone sitting in their car looking through the windshield with the monster coming from the screen in extreme foreshortening to exaggerate and parody the 3D ‘effect’? This might reduce the number of elements in the picture.
